Creating is a privilege

Introduction

I’ve been a creative for many years now. I started out as a writer and then expanded into designing and making things with my hands. The truth is that there are whole swathes of creatives who have no idea how to create even when they have the time and space. Being able to create for a living is a privilege, but it doesn’t mean you’ll always be able to do so or at least not as well as others can. If you want learn from others or just want someone else’s perspective on something, never forget that being kind to yourself and others will help both parties grow together!

What do you privilege?

Privilege is a social advantage or opportunity that’s associated with a particular group and its members. Some people have it, some don’t. Some people have more privilege than others. Everyone has at least one thing in common: the ability to benefit from their own skin color or gender identity/expression, class status, ethnicity, sexual orientation/identity (etc.)

Creative people are not always the most talented. In fact, the truth is that many creative people don’t really care about being “the best.” They’re just trying to do something they can be proud of (or at least not ashamed). Creativity requires work, so if you’re going to be a creative person, you need to accept this as part of your identity. Use your abilities for good instead of evil! If you don’t have any idea what this means yet then read on…

Being able to create for a living is a privilege.

Being able to create for a living is a privilege. It’s not easy, and it’s not always rewarding. There are many people who would love to be able to create for a living. But they can’t, because they don’t have the skills or tools necessary. Creating is stressful, especially if you’re starting out and don’t know what you’re doing!

If you’re passionate about your work and you want to learn from others, never forget to be kind to yourself and others.

If you’re passionate about your work and you want to learn from others, never forget to be kind to yourself and others. Being kind is an important part of being human. It makes others feel good because they know that their kindness will be returned in kind. It makes you feel good because feeling appreciated by someone else makes you realize how much more important they are than anything else in the world—and that’s pretty cool!

If we weren’t so nice all the time, our friends wouldn’t think so highly of us. If we were always mean or petty (which is sometimes the case). Neither of those people would want anything more than what they can get away with at this point. Maybe even then, but not always…

Being privileged doesn’t necessarily mean being talented or skilled at something. It only means that you have the means to do something.

Your creative process might not come as fast as you want it to but pushing yourself too hard will slow down your ability to create more in the future.

Creativity is a skill that needs to be nurtured and developed over time. Try not to discourage if you struggle at first. You can also use this as an opportunity for self-reflection: what are some things that are hindering your progress? Are there any new techniques or approaches that could help alleviate these issues? If so, try them out!
